Sundarbans Jungle Camp

Spend five exciting days discovering the Sunderbans' fragile mangrove eco-system on this tour ideal for nature and wildlife lovers. The Sunderbans are a network of waterways and islands in the delta formed by Rivers Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna. The uninhabited areas of the Sunderbans are dense impenetrable mangrove forest pervaded by creeks and rivers. A major area of the Sunderbans is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Tiger Reserve, National Park, Biosphere Reserve, and Reserve Forest.

The Sunderbans forest is one of the largest protected areas for the Bengal tiger. Fishing cats, leopards, macaques, foxes and jungle cats also live here. Gangetic dolphins, crocodiles, olive ridley, hawksbill and green turtles inhabit the waters of Sunderbans National Park. Bird watching enthusiasts can look for openbill storks, black-capped kingfishers, black-headed ibises, brahminy kites, marsh harriers and grey herons among the diverse bird species found at the Sundarbans.

Sunderbans Jungle Camp was set up in 2007 to support conservation efforts and create an alternative livelihood for the local community. This Eco Camp is located at Bali Island, at the fringe of Sunderbans National Park. Sunderbans Jungle Camp hosts six well-equipped bungalows, and a traditionally-styled dining hall where you can enjoy local Bengali cuisine. A fisherman's deck overlooks a peaceful pond, inviting you to experience tranquillity. Learn about the Sunderban's diverse ecosystem at the Nature Interpretation Centre and about the local way of life during the evening cultural performances.
