Your Northeast India Tour starts as you arrive at Guwahati Airport, Assam. Guwahati is the largest metropolis in the north-east region of India. Situated on the banks of River Brahmaputra, it is said to be the "Gateway" of the North East Region. The city is surrounded by lush forests and several national parks including Kaziranga, Manas, and Orang National Parks.
Upon arrival, our representative will meet you and transfer you for three hours along a picturesque mountain road which will take you to Shillong Town.
Check in to Ri Kynjai Resort for the night. Overlooking the beautiful Umiam Lake, the resort is set amidst groves of pine trees, lush paddy fields, and a small organic tea garden. The resort emulates the hospitality of Khasi culture, their eco-centric lifestyles, and their architectural design as well. Each cottage at the resort faces the east to give you the best possible view of the rising sun! The dining experience here showcases North Eastern cuisine while Indian, Chinese, and Continental food is also on the menu.
Today, you travel to Cherrapunji, 60 km away from Shillong. Cherrapunji now known by its historical name, Sohra, is popular for a large amount of rainfall it receives. In fact, it is now considered as the second wettest place on the Earth, displaced from the number one position by its neighboring Mawnsynram.
Once at Cherrapunji, trek to Double Decker living root bridges - a remarkable and ancient form of bioengineering form where the roots of two trees on either side have been trained over a number of years to meet and form a bridge by the villagers during ancient times. The process takes 10–15 years and the bridges typically last hundreds of years, the oldest ones in use being over 500 years old!
Stay at Cherrapunji Holiday Resort for the night. Located amidst lush greenery, this family-run nature resort has six comfortable rooms, and an in-house restaurant that serves fresh, local cuisine. Visitors benefit from receiving the resort owners' insider-information of the surrounding area.
Travel to Mawlynnong, the cleanest village in Asia, today. Mawlynnong is a community-based eco-tourism initiative. The village's cleanliness and aesthetic beauty are sure to leave you mesmerized. It is evident that the community has consciously made an effort to plan and maintain the ambiance of the village. Walk around in the village area and experience rural life, interact with the local community, and enjoy a delicious ethnic meal provided by the locals.
Then proceed to Shillong, and if time permits, indulge in some street shopping around the Shillong town area.
Bid farewell to Shillong and travel for about seven hours along a picturesque route to Kaziranga National Park - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This 470 square kilometers national park has tall elephant grass and lush green flood plains and is home to a rich variety of wildlife.
Spend the night at IORA - The Retreat, a luxury resort set amidst beautiful tea gardens. Each room here is spacious, equipped with modern amenities, and comes with your own private balcony that overlooks green vistas. During winters, there is a nice bonfire on the lawn with a traditional folk dance performance making for a perfect evening! Your dining options include a multi-cuisine restaurant, an ethnic specialty restaurant, a well-stocked bar, and a relaxing pool bar. After an intense day on safari, you could consider taking a relaxing massage at the resort's multi-philosophy spa.
The next two days will be action-packed! You will leave early in the morning for your first safari in Kaziranga National Park. After an exciting game drive, return to your hotel for some rest and then head out again for another game drive into Kaziranga.
Kaziranga is famous for its population of the greater Asian one-horned rhinoceros. Other mammals such as the Asian elephant, Asiatic water buffalo, and the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger can also be seen here. Bird watchers will be excited to spot greater adjutants, Bengal floricans, Pallas’s fish eagles, and black-necked storks.
In the evening, sit by the bonfire and enjoy a local cultural dance program and even try a few steps with the dancers!
You have another action-packed day today! Go on a morning safari in Kaziranga to explore its wilderness. After some rest, set out once again for an afternoon game drive in an open vehicle in Kaziranga National Park.
Travel to Nameri National Park today, situated two-hours away from Kaziranga. Nameri National Park is located at the foothills of the eastern Himalayas in Assam. It is best known for its high density of elephants and its varied bird population.
On arrival at Nameri, check into Eco Camp. This camp hosts thatched-tented accommodation and cater to nature lovers. You can opt for a nature walk in the afternoon across the forest area or visit a tribal village.

Then go white water rafting in the Bhoreli River in the afternoon!
Relax by the bonfire in the evening and reminisce about your North Eastern adventure as you will head back to Guwahati city tomorrow and fly home.
