Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, meet our representative and transfer to your hotel. You will be briefed about your activities for the next few days here. The rest of the day is free to explore Kathmandu on your own or relax at the hotel.
A lively and buzzing city, Kathmandu is growing rapidly. But behind the modern buildings and cars, you can still find peaceful alleyways, beautiful temples and serene courtyards. It’s easy to get around the city in taxis and explore its many sights and sounds.
Hotel Marshyangdi is conveniently situated in the heart of Thamel, Kathmandu’s tourist area. All rooms are aimed at comfort and have modern amenities. Enjoy a variety of cuisine at the restaurant or café, and unwind at the bar.
After an early breakfast, go on a tour to see historic monuments, temples, monasteries, palaces and UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Boudhanath, and the Hindu temples of Pashupatinath. As you travel along the exotic locales of Kathmandu, more diversified cultural settings in the valley will welcome you. Learn about Buddhism and the history of the beautiful stupa at Boudhanath, one of the holiest places for Buddhists.
Visit Patan Durbar Square, Mahaboudha Temple, Kumbeshwor Temple, Krishna Temple, Golden Temple and many other places in Patan. See intricately carved windows, intrinsic roof struts, statues of gods and goddesses, temples designed in pagoda style, and repoussé metalwork. Also visit a handicraft center in Patan.
After breakfast drive to Chitwan National Park. The 5-6 hour drive is along a scenic route by a private vehicle from Kathmandu on the Prithivi Highway along the banks of the Trisuli River. Drive past several traditional Tharu villages and eventually reach your lodge.
After lunch at the lodge, go on a village tour to a nearby ethnic Tharu village where you will learn more about the lifestyle of the Tharus. Then visit the National Park Visitor’s Centre where you can learn more about the history of the National Park and about the wildlife found here.
Return to your hotel to see the sun set from the banks of the Rapti River followed by dinner. See a Tharu dance performance by the local villagers in which you can also participate. Alternatively, see a slideshow presentation about Chitwan.
Ideally located a few minutes away from Chitwan National Park at Saurah, Jungle Safari Lodge is a combination of luxury and wildlife adventure. It has 20 deluxe air-conditioned and well-furnished rooms with attached baths and 24 hours hot and cold water supply. Each room has a verandah with a scenic view. The restaurant serves delicious Nepalese, Indian, Chinese and Continental cuisine.
Spend the day exploring Chitwan National Park. At least 43 species of mammals can be found here. The Park is known for its population of the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, tiger and gharial crocodile. It is also home to leopards, sloth bears, wild boars, deer, and bison. Around 550 species of birds have been reported in the Park. Spot the critically endangered Bengal florican, the vulnerable lesser adjutant, grey-crowned prinia, swamp francolin, the near-threatened Oriental darter and several species of grass warblers. The Park is one of the few known breeding sites of the globally threatened spotted eagle. Apart from the resident birds, around 160 migrating and vagrant species arrive in Chitwan in autumn including the greater spotted eagle, eastern imperial eagle and Pallas's fish-eagle.
After breakfast, take a canoe ride along the Rapti River, excellent for bird watching and seeing the two rare species of crocodiles: the marsh mugger and the fish eating gharial. Then go for jungle walk around the Park. On the way back to the Lodge, see elephants bathing.
After lunch, head into the Park to see various wildlife on an elephant safari. In the evening you will be presented with either a Tharu cultural dance or a slides show presentation.
Have an early breakfast and leave for the Elephant Breeding Centre. This is a fascinating place to watch mothers interact with baby elephants, see them roll around in the dust, ward off insects with their trunks, and generally go about their day. The elephants bred at this Centre are trained to later take tourists on safaris within the Park.
Return to the Lodge for lunch and then drive to Twenty Thousand Lake for a jeep safari. This Lake is an excellent spot for bird watching. Alternatively, you can choose to go on another elephant safari into the Park.
Drive to Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve that lies in the eastern part of Nepal. The Reserve is famous for bird watching and its population of wild buffaloes. If you arrive early enough, you will get an opportunity to go bird watching near the Saptakoshi Riverside.
Around 31 species of mammals have been recorded at the Ramsar Site of Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve including the Asian elephant, spotted deer, hog deer, wild pig, smooth-coated otter, golden jackal, and Ganges river dolphin. About 150 wild Asian water buffaloes live in the Reserve. Gharial and mugger crocodiles are known to inhabit the waters. A staggering 485 bird species have been recorded including the watercock, Indian nightjar, dusky eagleowl, black-headed cuckooshrike, whitetailed stonechat, striated grassbird, large adjutant stork, Pallas’s fish eagle, common golden-eye, and gullbilled tern.
Koshi Tappu Wildlife Camp is situated just outside the borders of the Reserve. It has 12 large deluxe safari tents equipped with modern facilities. The restaurant serves Nepalese and international cuisine and has a fully stocked bar. The Camp is engaged in conservation activities in the area and conducts training programs in schools on conservation, biodiversity and preservation of culture and heritage with the help of their in-house naturalists.
Wake up early and go for a nature walk near the Camp. After breakfast take a boat ride with a naturalist on the Saptakoshi River to view water birds, water buffaloes, dolphins and various water habitats. End the boat trip by the bank of the River and have a picnic lunch. Then drive to the Koshi Barrage to view different bird life and fresh water dolphins. The Barrage is an important site for migratory birds. Transfer back to the Camp late in the afternoon.
The day is dedicated entirely to bird watching around the Saptakoshi River. Look out for the Bengal florican, swamp francolin, sarus crane, and Nepal rufous-vented prinia today.
Go on a final bird watching adventure, followed by breakfast and a road trip to Biratnagar Airport for your flight to Katmandu. Transfer to your hotel upon arrival. The rest of the day is at leisure.
Today your Nepal Wildlife Tour comes to an end. Transfer to the airport for your journey home.
