Upon arrival in San José you will be met and transferred to your hotel where you can relax and freshen up.
White water rafting on the Pacuare River
You will be met early this morning and be transferred to the Pacuare River with breakfast en-route. After safety training and an introduction to rafting, you’ll enjoy an exciting 1-1.5 hr white water trip passing luxuriant rainforest teaming with birds and other wildlife. Once you have arrived at Pacuare Lodge you will can freshen up before lunch. In the afternoon you will have a guided hike to a nearby waterfall. In the evening you can relax to the sound of the rainforest.
Rainforest Tour
Today you will have the chance to explore the forest with the resident naturalist guide. You also have the option of visiting a local canyon or take a horseback ride to a nearby village (both at extra cost). You could of course just take the opportunity to soak up the ambience of the surrounding forest and river. In the evening you will be going on a night walk through the forest to experience what it looks like after the sun sets.
Today you can go on a hike to a remote indigenous community or a tour through the forest canopy on a zip line.
Transfer to Tortuguero and Visit the CCC Visitor Centre.
After breakfast you will leave Pacuare Lodge and be transferred in time to catch your bus to Tortuguero. If time allows upon arrival you will visit Caribbean Conservation Corporation’s visitor centre and turtle museum. Take the opportunity to relax to the sounds of the waves of the Caribbean sea in background.
Visit Tortuguero National Park
Today you will be taken on two different canal tours in Tortuguero National Park. Tortuguero National Park is a National Park within the Tortuguero Conservation Area. The reserve is also included in the Humedal Caribe Noreste, a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. The park is located in the Limón Province of northeastern Costa Rica. The park has incredible biological variety, due to the existence of eleven different habitats within the reserve - the habitats you get to see include rainforest, swamps, beaches, and lagoons. Tortuguero beach also holds the honour of being the largest green turtle rookery (nesting ground) in the Caribbean. Depending on the season, you can do an evening turtle tour on Tortuguero beach.
Transfer to Tabacon Grand Spa Thermal Resort, La Fortuna
You will leave early this morning and transfer to La Fortuna at the foot of Volcano Arenal, the most active volcano in Costa Rica. The Arenal Volcano National Park is located within the larger 504,094-acre (204,000-ha) Arenal Conservation Area, which protects 16 reserves between the Tilarán and Guanacaste mountain ranges. This area contains a great wealth of geologic and biological complexity.
Thermal Springs
Today is a day to relax and enjoy the thermally heated volcanic spa. The Tabacon experience at the Arenal Volcano centres on the hot thermal springs, pools and the Grand Spa. The main sunbathing and swimming area features five pools with temperatures ranging from 25 to 38 degrees C (77 to 102 F), the main one with a swim-up bar and thermal water slide. The pools on the lower section offer a more secluded ambiance with spectacular volcano and rainforest views, and they are also within the main service area of the Arenal Swim-Up Bar.
Transfer to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve
Transfer to Monteverde crossing Lago Arenal by boat. The Trapp Family Lodge is the closest lodge to the Monteverde Nature Reserve. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is a private, non-profit reserve administered by the Tropical Science Center. It spans six distinct ecological zones and helps to protect birds and butterflies, mammals, insects, and thousands of species of plants. A home to the famed resplendent quetzal, this reserve is especially popular with birdwatching enthusiasts.
Visit Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.
Today you will have the chance to explore the mysterious cloud forest surrounding the lodge in search of its secretive inhabitants that include resplendent quetzal, Baird’s tapir, ocelot and jaguar.
Transfer to Nosara, Peninsula de Nicoya
You will leave early this morning to transfer to Peninsular de Nicoya on the Northern Pacific coast of Costa Rica.
You will find a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine in your room and you will be treated to a candlelit 3 course dinner in the evening.
Enjoy the Peninsula de Nicoya
Spend two days relaxing by the beach at the luxurious L'acqua Viva. Enjoy a couple's massage (included in tour price), go horseback riding to a nearby village (optional), and choose from other activities offered by the hotel.
Transfer to San José
Today you will be transferred back to San Jose where you can relax by the hotel pool or maybe see some of the sights of the capital city.
This brings you to the end of your Costa Rica Wildlife Tour. Depart for home.
Fitness is vital for this level of activity, as the environment traversed may be remote and challenging. These rugged experiences include long walks, trekking, cycling or rafting in isolated areas through variable weather conditions for up to eight to ten hours a day.
